Our Journey: The Rise of BLAST
The B.L.A.S.T. program—Bible Learning And Sharing Together - began as a humble seed of faith planted by and flourished by God in the hearts, minds, and soul of the Milburn Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church family - dedicated to nurturing the spiritual lives of our youth. What once started as a small Wednesday afternoon gathering has blossomed into a comprehensive program serving children and families across our local community.
In the Fall of 2022, Bro. Larry Buchanan and a beloved member of the our larger Cumberland Presbyterian family realized the need for a program to bring young children in from all walks of life to a safe and inviting place to gather and share fellowship with others, learning of the grace and love of God through the Bible. They presented this God-inspired message to the church leadership, who prayerfully saw the need and encouraged its implementation at Milburn Chapel.
In the Fall of 2023, under the leadership of Kathy and Trevor Thompson, along with cadre of dedicated Kingdom workers in and outside the church, the first class of 10 to 15 young children began a journey into the B.L.A.S.T. program. Their faith and courage generated great interest and excitement in the children, which in turn spread God's message to others in the community.
In 2024 and beyond, Wendy Weaver, our Milburn Chapel Youth Director, brought her Kingdom work to bear, taking the B.L.A.S.T program to a new level, building on the foundation provided by the Thompson family.
As of Fall 2026, the B.L.A.S.T. program has expanded to nearly 50 children. Milburn Chapel has developed association with the local schools and school bus services, providing an opportunity for more children to participate in a safe and welcoming environment. We have witnessed remarkable growth in just the last few years, expanding to a diverse array of activities including community outreach, spiritual mentorship, and creative arts, and helping to support the basic needs of the children in concert with their parents and guardians.
Our mission remains steadfast: to provide a safe, calm, and serene environment where the next generation can explore their faith and develop a lasting relationship with Christ.

Today, B.L.A.S.T. stands as a beacon of our church's commitment to spiritual excellence, continuing to evolve and adapt to meet the needs of our growing congregation while honoring the natural and elegant traditions of our Presbyterian heritage.
